Why profitable businesses still run short

Profit and cash are different animals. You can win a big job, invoice it and still be short on Thursday because the customer pays on 45-day terms while your crew, your super and your suppliers want paying now. The gap is timing, not failure. Seeing it in dollars and days turns a vague worry into a specific, solvable number.

How to read the result

The gap is your bills, minus the cash you hold, minus the money you're confident will arrive in time. The number of days is how long you're short before the bigger payment you're expecting turns up. That tells you two things: how much to borrow, and roughly for how long. A short gap suits a short loan. A gap that keeps coming back suits a line of credit you draw on only when needed.

Which fast option fits which gap

  • Smaller gaps with no property: an unsecured cash-flow loan, sized on your turnover and bank statements. Smaller amounts can be funded the same day.
  • Gaps from $20k to $250k with property: a caveat loan or second mortgage, with same-day funding possible.
  • Large gaps up to $5m: property-secured lending, possible within 24 to 48 hours when the paperwork is ready.

Before you borrow, check the gap is real

Chase the overdue invoices first. Ask the bigger customer whether a part-payment is possible. Look at whether a supplier will stretch terms by a week. If the gap is still there, borrowing to bridge it is often cheaper than missing a wage run or paying late fees and penalties. When you're ready, the 60-second enquiry puts a real person on it. There's no credit check to start, and your details aren't sent to a crowd of lenders. Put the actual gap figure in the form so we can match the right option the first time.

Frequently asked questions

What is a cash gap?

It's the difference between what your business has to pay out over a period and the cash it has or will receive in time to pay it. A gap can exist even in a profitable business when customers pay later than suppliers, staff or the ATO need paying.

Should I borrow the whole gap?

Usually you borrow the gap plus a sensible buffer, for roughly as long as the gap lasts. Borrowing far more than you need, or for far longer, simply adds cost.

Is my information saved or sent anywhere?

No. The calculator runs in your browser. Nothing is stored or sent, and no credit check is involved.

What if the gap keeps coming back every month?

A recurring gap points to a structural cash-flow issue, such as long customer payment terms or seasonal trading. A line of credit often suits that better than repeated one-off loans.
